Making an acid-washed T shirt is easy. You can use a spray bottle to distribute the bleach selectively, or you can use a rubber band and dip your shirt in the bleach and water solution. Whichever option you choose, make sure to protect your eyes, skin, clothing, and body during the procedure.

Regardless of which method you follow, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• An old T shirt (a new one is fine if you don’t mind experimenting with it)
• Bleach
• Water
• Spray bottle
• A bowl or bucket to wash after bleaching
• Rubber bands
• Safety glasses
• Pair of rubber gloves
• A surface you don’t care about or covered with newspaper

1. Laid Flat Method: Using The Spray Bottle

A common method to acid wash your T shirt is to use a spray bottle.

Step 1: Fill a spray bottle with bleach and water solution.

Step 4: Wait for the bleach to develop.

Remove the T shirt from the solution and remove the elastic band. Then hang the T shirt outside or somewhere where it can drip and dry. Do not hang your shirt over any area that could be damaged by bleach.

When you are done hanging the shirt, let it dry for about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how well you want the bleach to develop. Try sprinkling some bleach on it, wait 10 minutes, then sprinkle it again.

Step 6: Rinse, wash and dry the shirt before wearing it.

After letting the shirt grow, dip it in a bucket or tub filled with clean water. Wring the shirt out, then put it in the washing machine with a regular wash cycle. Now you just need to dry the shirt, and you’re good to go!
